I’ve been home for a little over 3 weeks now. Oregon has been cold, but there’s been a lot of sunny days. It’s been very relaxing, definitely enjoying my much-needed vacation, but I’ve been putting in time practicing and exercising as well.
I had one really exciting weekend in January when I went up to Portland. They had an event called the Decentralized Dance Party. It was basically a dance party that moved around the city with the music being played by boom boxes. The theme was Extreme Workout, so people were dressed up in exercising clothing, as well as some crazy people that brought a small trampoline, jump ropes, weights, a limbo stick, etc. People got pretty creative. I mean, it is Portland. So we would move in a huge group through the streets and then stop at these locations, such as under a bridge, in the middle of two huge warehouses, by the river, and at the famous Burnside Skatepark. Sometimes you could climb on a ledge to see this massive crowd of people, it was pretty amazing. Not only was it a lot of fun, but it was also a great workout! I pretty much danced the entire few hours it went on. Here’s a cool picture from it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/elisfanclub/6784590947/in/set-72157629089043893
This weekend I’m driving down to Vegas! Not only to have fun with friends, but I actually got asked to record drums on a friends album! He was the piano bar guy on our ship and asked me and the bass player to come and record. So I’m meeting all of them there, staying at his house, and recording. Of course, there will be plenty of time to see the Strip and do all the fun Vegas things, but I’m also really looking forward to recording this album. When I get a link to it in the future I will send it out! After Vegas, I’m driving with the bass player to San Francisco to stay for a few days, see some friends, and explore the city. If you know of any great places or things I should definitely not miss out on, I would love some advice! Just post a comment here.
I hope everyone is having a great winter and getting through the cold weather!
